Industries - FMCG & Consumer Goods

Three label rewrites are coming.
Your review process was built for one.

The EU packaging regulation applies from August 2026, the deforestation regulation from December 2026, and the FDA is expected to finalise front-of-pack nutrition labelling. Benchmark builds the software and AI that gets packs right at portfolio scale, starting with automated artwork and label review.

For heads of packaging, regulatory and quality, brand operations and digital in consumer goods.

Overview

Overlapping deadlines, one artwork queue.

Consumer goods companies are entering a period where several regulations touch the same physical pack inside the same eighteen months, and the review capacity behind that pack has not grown.

EU FROM 12 AUG 2026

EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation

Replaces the 1994 Packaging Directive and applies uniformly across member states rather than through national transposition.

  • Declaration of conformity for each distinct packaging type
  • PFAS thresholds for food contact packaging
  • Standardised material composition and sorting labelling
  • Data carrier obligation, aligned to Digital Product Passport
EU FROM 30 DEC 2026

EU Deforestation Regulation

Applies to large and medium operators, with micro and small enterprises given until 30 June 2027.

  • Reaches further into portfolios than most teams assume
  • Derived products fall in scope
  • Certain paper packaging and rubber components
  • Chocolate and leather goods
US UNITED STATES

Front-of-pack nutrition and food traceability

Two obligations on two different clocks, one of them set by your customers rather than a regulator.

  • FDA front-of-package nutrition box, proposed with phased compliance
  • FSMA section 204 traceability, July 2028 compliance date
  • Major retailers already imposing their own data requirements
Two things follow
  • The same SKU data now has to serve several purposes at once.

Teams that collect it separately for each regulation will do the work three times.

  • Artwork review volume rises across the portfolio.

Packaging development cycles of nine to eighteen months are longer than some of the remaining compliance windows.

Neither problem is solved by adding reviewers.

Artwork proofreading is line by line comparison work done under launch pressure, and the cost of missing something is a recall or a delisting rather than a correction.

Benchmark builds the systems, automates the checking that used to be a person reading every line, and deploys AI where the reviewer keeps the decision.

Who we serve

Segments we work in.

01 Carton

Food & Beverage

Ingredient and allergen declarations, nutrition panels and claim substantiation, with front-of-pack changes ahead and traceability data requirements arriving from retailers before they arrive from regulators.

The highest risk artwork in consumer goods, and where Laibel does the heaviest lifting.
02 Bottle

Personal Care & Household

Multi variant ranges, frequent reformulation and heavy regulatory text on pack, plus packaging data obligations across a large SKU count.

Our work concentrates on the review and approval layer, where a repeatable check replaces a manual read.
03 Jar

Nutraceuticals & Supplements

Claim heavy labelling under close regulatory attention, long SKU tails and short launch windows.

Automated checking against approved content and rule sets rather than reviewer memory.
04 Digital

Brand, Trade & Digital Operations

Product content, retailer feeds, ecommerce and D2C. The data carrier and Digital Product Passport direction turns product content from a marketing asset into compliance infrastructure.

Which changes who owns it and how it is governed.
Capability pillars

What we do for consumer goods companies.

Pillar 01

AI & Intelligent Automation

Listed first here because it is the reason a consumer goods buyer arrives. Applied AI for artwork comparison, label checking and document extraction, deployed as accelerators rather than a blank page.

02

Software Product Engineering

We build consumer goods applications end to end, from architecture through release. Twenty years of product engineering discipline applied to systems the business runs on daily.

03

Software Architectural Assessment

One packaging data model has to serve several obligations at once. Deciding what that model looks like, and where it lives across PIM, ERP and artwork systems, is an architecture problem before it is a compliance one.

04

Quality & Test Automation

Regression coverage for commerce and operations platforms where a defect costs orders. FableRun generates and maintains suites so coverage keeps pace with release velocity.

05

Performance Engineering

Consumer platforms fail at the peak, during a promotion or a seasonal spike. We engineer for that peak, not the average.

06

UX Design

Interfaces used every day by packaging, regulatory and trade teams. Design that removes steps from the review and approval workflow, which is where the time actually goes.

Artwork and label review
Problem

Artwork and label review that is manual, repetitive and unforgiving, on portfolios running to hundreds or thousands of SKUs.

Automated comparison of packaging artwork against approved content, flagging text, ingredient, regulatory and formatting differences so the reviewer works through exceptions rather than every line. Built to leave a record of what was checked and what was found, which is the same evidence a regulator or a retailer asks for later.

Intelligent document processing
Problem

Specifications, supplier declarations and compliance documents that arrive unstructured, when the same data has to serve several regulations.

Intelligent document processing that extracts structured data from the formats brand and supply teams actually receive, including scans and mixed quality PDFs.

From 12 August 2026 it applies directly across member states rather than through national implementations. Packaging placed on the EU market needs a declaration of conformity and supporting technical documentation, with a separate declaration for each distinct packaging type, alongside PFAS limits for food contact packaging and standardised material and sorting information.

It can. It applies from 30 December 2026 for large and medium operators and covers derived products, so paper-based packaging, certain rubber and leather components and cocoa, coffee and palm-derived ingredients can fall in scope even for companies that do not consider themselves commodity businesses.

The right design keeps the reviewer in control. Laibel compares artwork against approved content and presents differences for a person to accept or reject, so the system narrows the work rather than replacing the decision.

Multi-language label review is part of what the product is for, since review burden grows fastest where one product ships into several markets under different rules. Confirm specific coverage for your range in a scoping call.

It sits at the review step rather than replacing the workflow. Artwork comes in, differences come out, and the approval and sign off you already run continues, now working from an exception list.

No. We are a software engineering company. We build and integrate the systems that make compliance work repeatable, and we do not advise on what your labels should say.

A scoped assessment typically runs a few weeks, with a first production increment inside a few weeks after that. Accelerator deployments move faster than ground-up builds.
Get started

Start with the review that delays your launches

Whether that is artwork sign off, packaging data spread across four systems, or a platform that has become hard to change, the first conversation is a working session, not a pitch.
